Defect Engineer II

Timpl has partnered with a global manufacturing company to hire a Defect Engineer II.


Summary: 

The Defect Engineer II identifies battery cell defects caused by contamination and reduce them through equipment and procedural improvements. The individual in this role will drive a focus on quality and continuous improvement in our li-ion battery cell manufacturing clean room. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Implement improvements that reduce foreign particles using a structured problem-solving approach, such as lean Six Sigma, including:
  • Using complex equipment such as scanning electron microscopes (SEM)
  • Identifying the root cause (source of contamination) in the production process
  • Designing, prototyping (including 3D printing) and piloting improvements
  • Verifying that improvements are effective
  • Standardizing improvements and communicating them with others both written and verbally
  • Train production team members on best practices and process changes
  • Collaborate with other teams (e.g. Production, Quality, etc.) to resolve internal and external quality issues 
  • Engage in weekly meeting with the production team to review and plan 
  • Participate in large-scale planning or installation projects as needed
  • Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
  • Design and direct the testing or control of processing procedures
  • Monitor material performance, and evaluate any quality issues
  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality
  • Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
  • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
  • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification

 

Experience:

  • 3 to 6+ years of experience in engineering problem solving, with an emphasis on hands-on continuous improvement implementation
  • Materials and mechanical engineering
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • CAD Design

 

Skills: 

  • Bilingual skills, writing and speaking, in English and Korean required.
